The cabin of knowledge (Athena)

Post by Zarina on Tue Aug 27, 2013 4:57 am

Antonio Ian Monroe walked into the Athena cabin, curious if the rumors of a super smart society within the camp run by this cabin was true or not. He believed it to be nothing but conspiracy, but you never know. He lightly knocked before entering, not wanting to intrude and he wasn't sure if he needed a library card or a search warrant, but he took his chances.

His dark hair was neatly groomed and his clothing perfect to the critique of a snotty Aphrodite child, showing him as a dignified, smart, as well as handsome lad. When he entered the cabin he only saw one person however, and the child of dike walked over to the girl "excuse me"

Sitting on her bed with her booklet opened, a pencil in hand, Victoria was resolving an equation of the ninth degree she would later have to integrate. She had found that equation in the maths book her father was using when he taught at the university of Bordeaux.
'I should compare it with the equation of the fifth degree abstracted of its second term.' she thought. 'I'd have: x^4+px^3+qx^2+rx+s=0
To identify the members, I would have to suppose that q=0 than put:
-5ab=p
5a^2b^2=r
a^2+b^2=-s'

In the heat of her calculations, she wouldn't have noticed the intruding boy if he hadn't said "Excuse me."

Victoria looked up, annoyed he had interrupted her. "Yes?"

"If you would please pardon me for the interruption, I have a question for you or one of your siblings you can redirect me to if you are too busy" he told her, glancing around the cabin, wondering where all the Athena kids sleep.

"The question I have has to do with the fact that speed is slower than sound, but when at certain points in reality, couldn't sound be faster? Hm?"

Victoria seriously wondered whether that boy had all his brain cells. Even a normal person couldn't be like that.

"I beg your pardon.... How could speed be slower than sound?" she asked; "Do you have a theorem about it?"

"Oh! I'm sorry, I mispoke. What I meant to say is, is there a possible way that thought can be slower than sound?" He asked, blushing slightly from the embarrassment. Well, being in a cabin with super geniuses would put anyone to shame so, yeah.

"Yes, of course; If you take drugs or drink a lot of alcohol, or when you're very tired," Victoria replied. "Anything else?"

"No. I just came to see the Athena cabin, I may be smart in law and order, but to you and your siblings I must be dumb, correct?" He asked, not minding if she insulted his intelligence.

Victoria inclined her head. Another one who thought to be smart and talked about it as if it were a known fact. At least he had the brightness to acknowledge he was probably dumb compared to her.
Not getting up, she coolly replied: "Before talking about smart and dumb, you should perhaps interrogate yourself on what smart and dumb is. As far as the philosophical definition is concerned, nobody has yet reached an agreement about what intelligence is."

"That is true, and I suppose being a child of knowledge, you perhaps know?" He inquired, sensing he was beginning to be lectured by her, although he didn't mind a lesson. How else were you supposed to lesrn?

"Are you thinking my mind can outclass those of the world's top philosophers? I'm only 14. I don't have much experience."
She gazed at him with her intense grey eyes, a streak of blonde hair falling in front of her face. She pushed it behind her ear. "However... I think we can conclude that everybody has his own definition. To me, for example, intelligence is just high logic combined with imagination and inventivity."

"So your saying everyone is intelligent, but in seperate ways?" He asked to confirm if that wa true or not. He was actually shocked he hadn't made a bigger fool of himself that he had already and waited for her answer.

"No, I just say that everybody has a different definition. However, the definition may be differ from the real thing," she calmly replied as she watched him.

He nodded "I understand that. How can you, as a child of wisdom tell who knows the right definition and who doesn't?" He questioned

"I can't," Victoria replied. "Being the daughter of intelligence doesn't mean I know the practical, proper definition of it."
She sighed.
"I of course believe my definition is the right one, but I accept criticism and improvement."

"And what is your definition?" He asked, curious to know if he would make the cut, though most likely she would toss him in te category with about every other camper

Victoria frowned at him. Was he deaf?
"I already told you my definition: logic combined with imagination and inventivity."

Victoria looked at the ceiling and lied down on her bed.
"Well, now you have your information," she said. "Anything else?"

Victoria watched him, the pecular boy who came into the cabin to ask a question that was obvious and interrogated her about intelligence. Perhaps another sophists who tries to get intelligent. She wondered whether he would turn back now to ask about something else.
